Q4 2026 Ads Strategy: Running Google and Meta When the Algorithms Decide More Than You Do

Targeting has mostly moved inside the platforms. What is left for advertisers is the part that was always decisive: what you tell the machine is success, what you show people, and what you offer.

What the algorithms decide now

On Meta, Advantage+ is the default for sales, leads and app campaigns. The Andromeda system retrieves which ads are eligible for each person and the GEM model ranks them. Detailed targeting acts as a suggestion in most conversion campaigns; location, age minimums, exclusions and language remain hard controls. On Google, AI Max for Search expands matching and writes text, Performance Max spreads across all inventory, and the new channel prioritisation controls are among the few new levers over where spend goes.

That shifts the advertiser's job. You no longer win by finding a clever audience. You win by giving the systems better inputs than your competitors.

Lever 1: signals

Both platforms optimise toward whatever conversion you report. Report the outcome that makes money: purchases with real values and refunds adjusted, or qualified leads and won deals imported from your CRM. Get Meta CAPI and Google enhanced conversions right before peak season, not during it. Bad signal at high spend is the most expensive mistake in Q4.

Lever 2: creative

On Meta, creative is now the targeting. Each distinct concept reaches a different group of people. Prepare six to ten concepts for Q4: offer-led, proof-led, gift-led, problem-led, founder-led, demo-led, each in vertical video, square and static. Use AI tools such as static-to-video for format variation, not as a substitute for ideas. On Google, write assets that state the offer and the reason to buy plainly, and review what AI Max generates using the search terms and ad combinations report.

Lever 3: the offer

No algorithm fixes an offer people do not want at that price. In Q4, auctions get more expensive as large retailers raise spend for Diwali in India, Black Friday and Cyber Monday in the USA, UK and Canada, and the year-end shopping season in the UAE. If your margin cannot absorb higher CPMs and CPCs, a better bundle, guarantee, gift wrap, faster shipping or a clear deadline will usually do more than any bid change. See AOV and repeat purchase. For lead generation, Q4 is often a time to build pipeline for January rather than force closes.

Lever 4: guardrails

Check the defaults the platforms keep adding. Meta: product browsing and personalised destinations (changing on 28 October), creative enhancements, placements, and brand safety. Google: automated promotions, automatically created assets, final URL expansion, brand exclusions, negative keyword lists, and low-priority channel caps. Ten minutes per account per week prevents most surprise spend.

A Q4 calendar

Now to early November: fix tracking, load creative, set guardrails, build audiences and remarketing pools, test offers at modest spend.

Peak weeks: raise budgets on what works, in steps of 20 to 30 per cent; avoid structural changes that reset learning; refresh creative that fatigues.

After peak: move spend to retention and repeat purchase, and to lead pipeline for the new year.

Across markets: India's festive season starts earliest, so Indian advertisers should already be in peak mode. The USA, UK and Canada peak around late November. The UAE has a strong December and Dubai Shopping Festival period. We run this plan in our high-ROAS campaign architecture work.

Frequently asked questions

What is Meta Andromeda?

Meta's ad retrieval system, which selects which ads are eligible to compete for each person before ranking.

What is Meta GEM?

Meta's large ranking model that helps decide which eligible ad to show.

Does detailed targeting still matter on Meta?

In most conversion campaigns it acts as a suggestion. Location, age minimums, exclusions and language remain hard controls.

What should I fix before Q4 peak?

Conversion tracking and signal quality, then creative volume and variety, then guardrail settings.

How much should I raise budgets in peak season?

In steps of 20 to 30 per cent on campaigns that are working, rather than large jumps.

Should I restructure campaigns during peak?

No. Structural changes can reset learning when it is most expensive.

How many creatives do I need for Q4 on Meta?

Six to ten distinct concepts, each in several formats, is a sensible target.

Is Q4 good for B2B lead generation?

Often for pipeline building rather than closing, with follow-up planned for January.

What Google Ads settings should I check?

Automated promotions, automatically created assets, final URL expansion, brand exclusions, negatives and channel caps.
